For one more year, the Municipality of Chersonissos plans a bike ride for young and old cyclists, on the coastal road of Stalida - Malia (Municipal Unit of Malia) on Friday, June 21th, in the context of the European Sustainable Energy Week 2019, on 17th – 21th of June, 2019.
The start of the bike ride will be announced by the Mayor, Yiannis Mastorakis, who will participate in the bike ride among young and old cyclists.
Starting from the parking lot of the Municipality, which is located northwest of the Maistrali Hotel (behind the Blue Sea Hotel), cyclists will cross the entire Stalida-Malia coastal road up to the Minoan Palace and end up to the starting point which will be the finishing point of the bike ride. The route of approximately 14km is extensively illustrated on the map shown bellow, while the starting and finishing points are distinct. Upon the completion of the bike ride, participation awards will be given to all the participants, while energy surprises will wait young participants (up to 10 years).
This action, entitled “Coastal Bike Ride in Chersonissos Municipality 2019” has also been posted on the official site of the European Union EUSEW, where through THIS link, whoever interested can get more information.
The aim of this action is to initiate alternative modes of transport that are less polluting, to promote the daily use of ecological means of transport in order to be reduced the traffic load and to disseminate the message that the Municipality of Chersonissos is a Bike Friendly Authority who supports in beneficial environmental actions.
The ultimate goal is to be raised awareness of the issue of eco transportation, to be adopted this good habit in the everyday life of the municipal citizens, to be increased the number of bicycle users on the streets of the Municipality, to be supported the right of free transport and to be introduced similar actions as a good practice of the Municipality, in the context of the sustainable and viable policy that is applied to energy and environmental fields by the Municipality responding to the commitments stemming from its participation in the Covenant of Mayors.
The organizing working group that coordinates the action informs stakeholders that a limited number of bicycles will be allocated to those who do not have their own bicycle provided they declare in time their participation, either at Planning & Development Department of municipality, in Gournes, either electronically through THIS link, by completing the relevant application form for themselves and the young children that accompanying the action. Furthermore, a limited number of bicycles will also be available at the starting point of the bicycle, with strict adherence to the attendance priority.
