The club “Olof Palme’s Friends of Crete”, the administrative region of Crete and the Municipality of Hersonissos, co-organize an event in honor of Olof Palme, where the presentation of George Logothetis’ book on Palme’s life and work will take place. The event will take place on Saturday, May 27th at 19:30 at Mochos Square in the Municipality of Hersonissos.

The main speaker of the event will be Palme’s eldest son, Joakim Palme, who will visit Crete specifically for this event. Joakim Palme is a professor of Political Science at Uppsala University with a province of Immigration Policy.

The President of the Social Democrats Movement and the President of the Socialist International, George Papandreou, who lived in Sweden during the dictatorship, the spokesman of the Swedish Embassy in Athens, Mimis Androulakis, the ANEL MP (Member of Parliament), Thanasis Papachristopoulos, as well as the writer of Palme’s biography, George Logothetis will speak about Palme.

The Choir of Malia, the Cretan Youth Symphony Orchestra and the dance group of Mochos Cultural Club will participate in the event too.

George Logothetis was a journalist in Swedish Television (1975-1988). In his book “Olof Palme-Politics is a matter of Principles”, he records the unique Palme’s course. It is a course due to which he brought Sweden to the forefront of Global Politics.

Nowadays, Palme’s work is still topical and his ideas are a point of reference for tackling the global economic and moral crisis.

His political positions on the economy course and the need for social justice, cooperation and mutual understanding proved prophetic:
“If we do not take the necessary measures now, the account that we will have to pay will be very expensive. We, as politicians, should take our responsibilities for the consequences.

In the book, there is a noticeable reference to Palme’s relationship with Greece and Crete, by having also a significant photographic material.

In the event, it will be featured, for the first time in Greece, a rare video-documentary with Palme’s visits to Crete and the way Mochos residents lamented Olof Palme as an honorary village citizen.
